Two absolutely essential tools for windows
For literally years I have been searching for windows applications that could take the current archaic folder browser to a new level. Well if you too have been looking, look no further. QTtabBar and Folder size for windows are here to change your windows folder browsing experience.
I can’t see myself using windows without these applications any more.
QTtabBar:
This application has a HUGE list of options and windows browser tweaks. And the best part, 90% of them were on my personal wishlist.
Requirements: XP or Vista and Microsoft .NET framework 2.0 or later (Not needed for Vista)
.
.
Notable Features:
- Tabbed folder browsing.
- Functions similar to firefox tabs ( middle click functions to close and open new tab).
- Renaming ‘F2′ un-selects the files extension for easy renaming.
- Closed tab history.
- Tab groups – Great for opening all the folders you need for a specific project you work on often.
- Double click anywhere in the window browses up 1 folder (except clicking on a folder or file).
- Mouseover images and documents displays a large thumbnail.
- Transparency (better to disable with some open gl software though).
- Folder and file name copying tools(Great for selecting a long list of files that you simply want to copy and paste to a list).
- Open to plugin developement (here are some of the current plugins)
- and much much more
Recommendation for 3d artists:
- In “options>Misc>Enable’Sub folder tip’” Uncheck this option if you find your browser flickers overtop of an opengl software. Other than this, I have had zero compatibility or bug issues for 6 + months of use.
Folder size for Windows:
This simple app gives you the option to view folder and file size details in your windows browser detailed view.
Check both links for examples of the software.
Happy Browsing!
-Chad
